Z718.3 → March's Baby Storytime

March's session of baby storytime was interesting - the first week didn't run because it was the week of March Break and the day of a big regional snow storm. I was all set up with my session but unfortunately no one showed. Fortunately though, the second week had lots of people - with four new babies joining this month. Our third week (which is just labelled as Week 2 in the outline below for ease) saw a month high of 8 baby participants with their additional adult accompaniment. The babies (and adults, both) were pretty restless by the end of the last session, but overall it was a good outing, I think.

This is my last baby storytime for the foreseeable future, as I'm moving on to running toddler storytime beginning next week! Read on for the last baby storytime outline!

Opening Song: The More we Get Together

Book 1:

Week 1 - Mouse's First Spring / Lauren Thompson; Week 2 - Silly Little Goose / Nancy Tafuri

Clapping:
Jack-a-Dandy
Handy-spandy Jack-a-dandy,
Loved plum cake and sugar candy,
He bought a cake at the grocer's shop,
And out he came: hop, hop, hop.

Peas Porridge Hot
Peas porridge hot,
Peas porridge cold.
Peas porridge in the pot,
Nine days old.
Some like it hot,
Some like it cold,
Some like it in the pot,
Nine days old!

Bananas
One banana, two bananas [clap twice]
In a bunch! [three claps]
Three bananas, four bananas, [two claps]
Let's have lunch! [three claps]

Bouncing:
Yankee Doodle
Yankee Doodle went to town,
Riding on a pony.
Stuck a feather in his cap,
And called it "macaroni."

Fiddle-De-Dee
Fiddle-de-dee, fiddle-de-dee,
The fly has married the bumble bee!
They went to the church,
And married was she,
The fly has married the bumblebee!

Book 2:

Week 1 - Springtime baby / Elise Broach; Week 2 - Quack! / Phyllis Root

Music - Shakers:
Week 1 - Head and shoulders baby / Sharon, Lois, and Bram. Smorgasbord. ; Week 2: Down by the Bay / Raffi. Singable Songs for the Very Young.

Swinging:
Acka Backa
Acka backa soda cracker,
Acka backa boo!
Acka backa soda cracker,
Up goes you!
Acka backa soda cracker,
Acka backa boo!
Acka backa soda cracker,
I love you!

Fingerplays:
The Itsy Bitsy Spider
The itsy bitsy spider,
Went up the water spout.
Down came the rain,
And washed the spider out.
Out came the sun,
And dried up all the rain.
And the itsy bitsy spider went up the spout again.

Two Little Birds
Two little dickie birds sitting on a wall, [indicate two index fingers]
One named Peter, the other named Paul.
Fly away Peter, fly away Paul. [hide fingers behind back]
Come back Peter, come back Paul! [bring fingers back out]

Little Rabbit
I saw a little rabbit go hop, hop, hop. [use fingers as rabbit ears]
I saw his big, long ears go flop, flop, flop. [flop hands on head like ears]
I saw his little nose go twink, twink, twink. [point to nose]
I saw his little eyes go blink, blink, blink. [snap hands close or point to eyes]
I said, "Little rabbit won't you please stay?"
But he just looked right at me and then hopped away.

Music - Bubbles:
Week 1 - Cheerio / Sharon, Lois, and Bram. Smorgasbord. ; Week 2: Going to the zoo / Raffi. Singable Songs for the Very Young.

Tickles:
Round the Garden
Round and round the garden,
Like a teddy bear.
One step, two step,
Tickle under there!

Beehive
Here is a beehive [hold up fist]
But where are all the bees?
Hiding inside where nobody sees.
Watch the bees come creeping out of the hive,
1-2-3-4-5! [count on fingers]
Bzzzzzzzzz. [tickle]

Closing Song: Twinkle, twinkle little star
