Z718.3 → Toddler Storytime: Farm Animals

Activity: Finding nametags

Opening songs:
Hands go up! (x2)
Open them, shut them (x2)

Book 1: Moo, moo, brown cow, have you any milk? / Phillis Gershator

Song: "Bingo!"
There was a farmer, had a dog,
And Bingo was his name-o!
B-I-N-G-O!
B-I-N-G-O!
B-I-N-G-O and Bingo was his name-o.

Song: "Old MacDonald"
... we did a lot of different verses with suggestions from the toddlers - cows, horses, dogs, cats, and so on.

Book 2: How big is a pig / Clare Beaton

Action: "Teddy bear, teddy bear"
Teddy bear, teddy bear, turn around,
Teddy bear, teddy bear, touch the ground.
Teddy bear, teddy bear, reach up high,
Teddy bear, teddy bear, touch the sky.
Teddy bear, teddy bear, find your nose,
Teddy bear, teddy bear, touch your toes.
Teddy bear, teddy bear, find your knees,
Teddy bear, teddy bear, sit down please.

Song: "Five Green and Speckled Frogs"
Five green and speckled frogs, sat on a hollow log.
Eating the most delicious bugs. (Yum, yum!)
One jumped into the pool, where it was nice and cool,
Now there are four speckled frogs!
      ... count down

Felt board: Matching game -- we have some felt cutouts of different animals and their "homes," such as a barn, a dog house and a fish bowl. I got the toddlers to talk about where each animal might live/sleep on the farm.

Craft: paper plate rooster

Goodbye song: "The more we get together"

How'd It Go?
The kids were so great in this session - they participated a lot with some great suggestions for what kind of farm animals they liked. They loved the craft too, but I felt bad that I didn't know offhand what the term for that dangly bit underneath the rooster's chin was called (its called a comb, fyi). In general, they just seemed really happy to be there with each other while at the same time were really well-focused on what we were doing.
